Local doctors, also known as general practitioners (GPs), look after the health of people in their local community and deal with a whole range of health problems. There are over 350 GP Practices throughout Northern Ireland

GPs provide a range of services including:

  • medical advice
  • physical examinations
  • diagnosis of symptoms
  • prescribing of medication
  • health education
  • giving vaccinations
  • carrying out simple surgical operations.
  • providing ongoing care for more longstanding or chronic conditions
  • some GP Practices provide an online Appointments Booking or Repeat Prescription service (via their practice websites)
