Moyle Medical Centre in Larne, which accommodates Corran Surgery, Inver Surgery and Victoria Surgery, has benefitted from a £1.2 million investment.
The project has delivered modern, fit-for-purpose accommodation for each practice, enabling the roll-out of Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) staff.
As the MDT becomes fully established, patients will be able to access additional services such as Physiotherapy, Mental Health and Social Work directly within their GP practice – supporting care closer to home and reducing waiting times.
The introduction of MDT staff represents a significant step towards a more integrated model of care, making it easier for patients to access joined-up primary and community health services in a single location.
Commenting on the investment, Dr McIlroy from Corran Surgery said: “The opportunity to extend our building has added much needed space to the practice. Already, our practice pharmacists, who are also part of the MDT team, can run additional chronic disease clinics from these rooms, and it allows the practice continue to grow.
“The transformation of this space is also allowing the practice also accommodate GP trainees for the first time. We look forward to completing our MDT team, with a first contact physiotherapist join the senior mental health practitioner already in place.”
Dr McIlroy also thanked staff and patients for their patience during the building process.
Dr Kathy Ferguson of Victoria Surgery added: “We are pleased to have had the opportunity to extend our building in support of the MDT project. Our recently appointed mental health practitioner is already proving to be a valuable addition to the practice, and we look forward to welcoming a first contact physiotherapist to the team.
“Together, these developments strengthen the service we provide for our patients and wider community. We are also proud to offer high-quality space and facilities for medical students, helping to support their training and encourage new GPs to join the area.”
