Elaine Hunter, Programme Director said: “Supporting investment in GP practices is a key priority for the DoH.  More than £2.2 million of funding has been provided across the Western Health and Social Care Trust area in the last three years, to increase capacity within primary care premises. I was delighted to visit the practice to see and hear about the significant benefits of the investment”.

Patients will now benefit from two additional clinical consulting rooms, a new physiotherapy room, a new therapy room, and associated waiting space. The additional space is to facilitate the GP pharmacist, GP trainees and the role out of Multi-disciplinary teams (MDT) into the Derry federation area.

The MDT includes Physiotherapists, Social Workers and Mental Health workers who work in general practice, alongside GPs and Nursing staff. The MDT model aims to deliver more services closer to patients’ homes.

The extension has been extremely well received by the patients of the practice who have made a range of positive comments in respect to the new space:

Room with large window and chair in front of window

Therapy room

The rooms are very spacious and bright and warm’

‘Very well-designed building’

‘Brilliant to have such an asset like this in our village

The Practice’s counsellor has also noted that the design of the extension, which allows for the therapy room to have uninterrupted views to the calming external topography, has been hugely beneficial in providing a warm and soothing environment for consultations with patients highlighting that ‘the connection with the outside natural world helps to still any discord or tension’.
