Bovally Medical Centre at 2 Rossair Road, Limavady is home to two GP practices, Bovally Medical Practice and Rossair Family Practice. As part of the roll-out of the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) model, the centre has benefited from an investment of around £250,000 through the Department of Health’s Capital Improvement Grant Scheme, developed in partnership with the practices and the Strategic Planning and Performance Group (SPPG).
Clinical rooms and GP training services were already at full capacity, so additional accommodation was required to sustain core services and host MDT professionals. A modular building has been installed adjacent to the existing premises, creating new patient-facing rooms and hot-desk space for MDT staff. This expansion provides better access to services including physio, mental health and social care, in line with the MDT model.
What it means for patients and staff
Dr Vinay Talikoti said: “The new facilities are bright and spacious. Patients are comfortable in the consultation rooms and there is plenty of space for healthcare professionals and patients in a clinical setting.” (Bovally Medical Practice)
Diane Quigg, Healthcare Assistant, said: “The modular building is an excellent resource. The extra space is private and quiet for ringing patients regarding test results and hospital letters and for other tasks without interruptions.” (Rossair Family Practice)
Catherine Grant, Practice Pharmacist, said: “I find working in the MDT building much calmer than the main building. It is a quieter, less distracting space as there is no noisy area or phones ringing.” (Rossair Family Practice)
Lynne Gray, Senior Social Work, said: “Our working environment is a safe, comfortable and suitable place for both staff and patients. It allows us to offer a social work service with the privacy, dignity and confidentiality all our patients need. We have all the equipment and supplies required to provide a service to those in need.” (Bovally Medical Practice)
Programme perspective
Martin Hayes, Programme Director (PCD), said: “Supporting investment in GP premises is a key priority for DoH. Funding has been provided across the Western Trust area in recent years to increase capacity where it’s needed most. I was delighted to visit the practice to see first-hand the practical benefits of this investment.”
