ICPs support Palliative Care Week

7th October 2019

Palliative Care Week which ran from 8-15 September was facilitated by All Ireland Institute of Hospice and Palliative Care (AIIHPC). The theme for this year’s campaign was Palliative Care: Surrounding You With Support.

Talking to family about end of life and palliative care can be scary, but planning ahead can make a big difference.

Developed in partnership with Macmillan and the Public Health Agency, the booklet “Your Life and your choices: plan ahead” provides information about advance care planning and is for anyone who wishes to plan ahead, whether they have a serious illness or not.

Lynne McCausland, Community Pharmacist and Chair of Craigavon/Banbridge ICP,  recognised the important role that pharmacies can play in being a source of information for the local community and in encouraging people to plan ahead.

Working alongside colleagues in the Palliative Care Partnership programme, and from UCA-NI Limited, ICPs arranged for all community pharmacies across Northern Ireland to receive stock of the booklet and encouraged community pharmacists to be aware of the support available for people and their families in planning ahead.
