1st August 2022
Over 500 local community pharmacies across Northern Ireland are supporting a campaign that aims to raise awareness of the health benefits of breastfeeding and encourage support for breastfeeding mothers. The Living Well breastfeeding campaign will run during July and August 2022.
Living Well is a community-based pharmacy service that provides information and advice on public health issues. It is delivered by the Public Health Agency, Department of Health and Community Pharmacy Northern Ireland.
Breastfeeding is a fundamental public health issue because it promotes health, prevents disease and helps contribute to reducing health inequalities. It provides the foundation for a healthy start in life and helps prevent disease in the short and long term for both babies and their mothers.
In addition to calling out some of the important health benefits of breastfeeding, the campaign highlights the role we can all play in developing a culture where breastfeeding is supported and normalised. A key part of that is creating a welcoming environment for women to breastfeed in public.
