Patients at Scarva Street Surgery in Loughbrickland will now benefit from expanded services closer to home, following a £0.23m investment in the surgery premises.
The extension has enabled the rollout of the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) initiative, introducing Physiotherapists, Social Workers, and Mental Health Practitioners into the practice. These additional services will improve access to essential healthcare for the local community.

Dr Róisín Mulligan, GP Partner, welcomed the improvements, stating, “our new facilities are a fantastic addition to the surgery.
The extra consulting rooms allow us to welcome a Physiotherapist and Mental Health Practitioner to our team, ensuring patients can access these services directly and in a timely manner. The extension also provides much-needed workspace for our team. We are delighted with our new facilities and have had such a positive response from patients.”
The project was funded by the Department of Health’s (DoH) Primary Care Infrastructure Development Programme, in collaboration with GP Practices and the Newry and District GP Federation Area.
The new extension includes a dedicated physio consulting room, an additional MDT interview room, and extra clinical consulting spaces, ensuring the practice can continue to deliver core General Medical Services (GMS) while expanding access to vital MDT services.
Patient Kathy Smith praised the investment, noting, “the new extension is well thought out, with bright natural light and well-designed rooms with bright natural light and well-designed rooms. It feels bright and non-oppressive, with thoughtful styling.”
This development will also support GP training and expand social care provision, ensuring that patients receive timely, holistic healthcare in a modern, purpose-built setting. The Scarva
