To mark the 100th anniversary of the use of insulin to treat diabetes (11 January 2022), the Northern Ireland Diabetes Network launched a new regional pump service to improve the lives of people living with the condition.
As insulin pumps have traditionally been accessed and provided differently across Trusts, the Diabetes Network has recognised the importance of developing a sustainable regional approach to the acquisition, utilisation and replacement of insulin pumps with an emphasis on equity and safety.
The pathway, supported by £2 million funding by the Department, aims to ensure equitable access to pumps and support, no matter where patients live in Northern Ireland.
